Error importing Windows 10 OS into MDT 2013 “Unable to get information for WIM file C:\Install.wim.”

Hi all,

I’ve just been updating our MDT 2013 deployment share with Windows 10, however, I came across an issue when importing the OS into MDT.

Error: Unable to get information for WIM file C:\OS_Copies\Win10_Pro_x64_Vanilla\Sources\Install.wim.

My ISO file was created using the Media Creation tool.

This media creation tool does not export a valid WIM file. Under the hood, it’s a masked ESD file.

To get around this issue, you need to build some new ISOs.

  1. Go to this website and download the relevant ESD file(s)
  2. Follow the instructions here
  3. Import the created ISO into MDT.

Man this stuff wastes so much of my time.

Time for another cuppa.
